Who I am
Dawn Houghton Upholstery ("I", "me") is the data controller for this website. The studio is at The Old Granary, Unit 3, Hurst Barns, Hurst Lane, Privett, Hampshire GU34 3PL. For anything to do with your data, contact me at info@dawnhoughton.com or on 07923 910 749.
What I collect, and why
Enquiry forms
When you send an enquiry through this site I collect the details you enter: your name, email address, telephone number, your message, and — depending on the form — the course you're interested in, preferred timing, the type of enquiry, and any photos of your furniture you choose to upload.
I use these details solely to reply to your enquiry, discuss dates, availability, estimates and bookings, and to keep a record of our correspondence. The lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me.
Bookings
If you book a course or commission a piece, I keep your contact details and booking records for as long as needed to run the course or complete the work, and afterwards as required for accounting purposes (normally six years).
Analytics and advertising measurement
With your consent (see Cookies below), this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, and the Meta Pixel to measure whether advertising on Facebook and Instagram is working. These tools set cookies and collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type, and interactions like sending an enquiry form. They do not run at all unless you accept cookies.
Who your data is shared with
Your data is never sold. It is processed on my behalf by a small number of service providers:
- Form handling — enquiry form submissions are delivered to my inbox by a form-processing provider.
- Website hosting — this site is hosted by Vercel Inc.
- Google (Google Analytics 4) and Meta Platforms (Meta Pixel) — only if you consent to cookies.
- Google Maps — the map on the contact page is embedded from Google Maps, which may set its own cookies when the map loads.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK; where they do, transfers are protected by UK-approved safeguards such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
Cookies
No analytics or advertising cookies are set until you choose "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you decline, the site works exactly the same and nothing is loaded. You can change your mind at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. Your consent choice itself is stored in your browser so the banner doesn't reappear on every visit.
How long I keep your data
Enquiries that don't lead to a booking are kept for up to two years, in case you come back to book later, then deleted. Booking and payment records are kept for six years as required by HMRC. Analytics data is retained according to the tools' standard settings (Google Analytics: 14 months).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email info@dawnhoughton.com.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
